Major moves to keep more patients on home turf

Nearly three-quarters of orthopedics patients in Shelby County have gone to an Indianapolis hospital to receive care. Now, Major Hospital in Shelbyville wants to keep more of those patients at home. By next June, the hospital will build a $7 million orthopedics center that will house two orthopedic surgeons. They will begin building their practices in Shelbyville next month.The play for orthopedics patients throws Major into a pitched battle among Indianapolis-area hospitals. Surging numbers of patients need new hips and knees. And providing them is one of the most profitable things hospitals do these days. Click here for more information.


Name Change Reflects Mission

Passing motorists who have viewed the white shrouded sign in front of Major Hospital have posed plenty of questions about what is happening at the hospital. During a short ceremony in the rain on Thursday, hospital, city and county officials gathered in the parking lot to unveil a new sign that says "Major Hospital MHP, a Major Health Partner." The name is part of the hospital's push to re-brand itself as "more than a hospital" by emphasizing its partnerships with other health-care businesses in the community and reminding everyone who sees the sign that the hospital is only one of the services provided by MHP. Indianapolis Star: Indy leads Midwest in adding tech jobs

From 2001 to 2006, Central Indiana added high-tech jobs faster than any other metro area in the Midwest, according to a new study from the national tech trade group AeA. That doesn't mean Indianapolis is a tech mecca. It's no San Jose, Boston or even Chicago.
